Consumerism Green Promises

On Mon Jun 01 2009, runnerbare promised:

Say No to Pesticides

I promise to help educate parents about the dangers to their kids, pets and the environment with pesticide use. They are not safe or "less toxic". Consumers can make a choice and say no to purchasing and using pesticides. We can use supply and demand to drastically cut pesticide use!

Obstacles: The 30 second commercial sells consumers on the ease of using pesticides. Somehow, we think using a bottled product is more effective than the old way -- hand pulling. But we are leaving so much behind in our water and where our kids play.

Goal Date: 6/1/2010 Percent Complete: 50%

Promote GREEN at CHOCOLATE.COM!

10 out of 10 stars (1 vote)

I work for Chocolate.com. With Earth Day and Fair Trade Day coming up, I will work to bring more green chocolate chefs to sell their items on Chocolate.com!

Obstacles: We have many wonderful green chocolatiers, but we can always add more, and make green products more readily available to the general public.

Goal Date: 5/10/2009 Percent Complete: 100%

No more new books

I've been adding to my Stephen King collection via local used bookstores, craigslist and ebay. For anything that's not a collectible, I'm using the local library.

Obstacles: The Stones said it best: you can't always get what you want.

Stop getting take-out at lunch.

I always feel bad when I get take-out at lunchtime, not just because I usually don't eat the most healthful thing, but because it produces so much waste in the form of disposable containers, so I want to stop doing that and start bringing my lunch in the reusable containers I purchased a while back for that purpose.

Obstacles: I forget to make my lunch, I'm lazy, and I would usually kill someone for a chicken sandwich from Al's. Of course, it's not free-range or hormone-free, I'm sure, so that should make me feel guilty, too.

Goal Date: 1/31/2009 Percent Complete: 100%
